Femme in STEM 2025 Kleiner Lab at the Aquarium!

Femme in STEM is a fantastic event dedicated to highlighting and empowering women in science, celebrating their achievements, and inspiring the next generation of scientists. This year’s event featured 27 interactive tables and drew over 2,500 visitors to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher!

The Kleiner Lab brought the world of microbial science to life with hands-on demonstrations that spanned genomics, microbiology, and basic wet-lab techniques. Visitors tested their problem-solving skills with interactive puzzles and got an up-close look at the tiny organisms that power our planet.

Our booth was brilliantly designed and (wo)manned by lab members Jessie Maier, Olivia Mathieson, Ayesha Awan, Edeline Anthoniraj, and special guest Rachel Simoes. Who all did an amazing job engaging curious minds and representing the strength of women in STEM!

It was an inspiring day filled with discovery, connection, and curiosity, proving that science is for everyone.
